Within work, managers tend to focus on the behaviour and competence of their employees, when understanding their performance level and potential. However there are much bigger performance drivers at work that are hidden from sight, that if tackled through the right coaching process can actually enable the individual to excel for themselves and the organisation.
So what are these Hidden Performance Drivers that maybe seen as soft within HR, yet actually impact individuals and organisations hard?
The Hidden Performance Drivers, are often ignored by employers, which is naïve as these can make the difference between allowing an employee to reach their potential and add real value to the organisation or not. Performance and Wellness Coaching is a great way of helping your organisation get the best out of their employees by helping them become more self-aware and remove the old limiting beliefs, values, negative emotions, and perceptions.
Now understanding the science that Self awareness is the Number One trait for success based on a plethora of studies, including one that studied half a million people. This found that personality and demographics had little baring on success and in fact the strongest predictor of success was self-awareness. (For more information on Self Awareness please check out one of my other blogs - coming soon)
Additionally Green Peaks Partners and Cornell University 2019 found that conventional ‘wisdom’ was wrong and leaders who possess strong soft skills perform better at driving hard results. Hence when organisations support their employees to work on their hidden performance drivers that are potentially holding them back, they also grow self-awareness, that positively impacts behaviour and competence, resulting in positive outcomes and success for all.
Additionally, when these limiting beliefs (ways of thinking), values and habits are aligned in a positive direction, employees feel strong, confident, empowered and engaged, which improves employee satisfaction, engagement and success personally and professionally, which results in greater retention of talent within the current workforce. Furthermore the organisation’s positive Purpose of putting their employees’ growth and wellbeing at the fore attracts new talent, needed for organisational growth and success. (for more information on Purpose and Values please see my blog on ALIGNING PERSONAL CORE VALUES ALONGSIDE ORGANISATIONAL CORE VALUES… Is this outdated now in this modern day of embracing unique strengths? Is there a better way?)
